How are UNIDs assigned in OMS?

There are two ways a record may be assigned a UNID. First, if a record is created in OMS with a commissioned person type (like “Cadet” or “Officer”) it will automatically be assigned a UNID. If a civilian or accepted candidate record is created they will not receive a UNID since those are not commissioned types. The second way is to change the person type to a commissioned type which is discussed in detail below.

When a person has a record but no Officer UNID, a warning icon should display on the Personal Info page to notify the user that the officer needs a new Officer UNID to be generated. When the user clicks on the warning icon, a dialog will open instructing the user on how to generate a new officer UNID.

A new Officer UNID can be generated by adding or re-entering a person type that requires an officer record or is a commissioned type.

 Instructions

  1. Find an officer record without an officer UNID and a current person type of Officer, Envoy, Cadet, or A/Captain

  2. Verify the warning icon is displayed next to the “ID: “ label in the person header.

  3. When the user clicks the warning icon, a dialog should display which tells the user how to create a new officer UNID regardless of user permissions.

  4. Navigate to the Personal Info page.

  5. Delete the current person type, noting the type and start date.

  6. Re-enter the same person type with the same start date.

  7. Close the person type dialog and confirm the person header is updated with the new officer UNID.

The IPS UNID – Unique Identification for all officers – is never changed, as it is a historical and one-time identification of where officers started their officership.
