How are UNIDs assigned in OMS?
There are two ways a record may be assigned a UNID. First, if a record is created in OMS with a commissioned person type (like “Cadet” or “Officer”) it will automatically be assigned a UNID. If a civilian or accepted candidate record is created they will not receive a UNID since those are not commissioned types. The second way is to change the person type to a commissioned type which is discussed in detail below.
When a person has a record but no Officer UNID, a warning icon should display on the Personal Info page to notify the user that the officer needs a new Officer UNID to be generated. When the user clicks on the warning icon, a dialog will open instructing the user on how to generate a new officer UNID.
A new Officer UNID can be generated by adding or re-entering a person type that requires an officer record or is a commissioned type.
Instructions
Find an officer record without an officer UNID and a current person type of Officer, Envoy, Cadet, or A/Captain
Verify the warning icon is displayed next to the “ID: “ label in the person header.
When the user clicks the warning icon, a dialog should display which tells the user how to create a new officer UNID regardless of user permissions.
Navigate to the Personal Info page.
Delete the current person type, noting the type and start date.
Re-enter the same person type with the same start date.
Close the person type dialog and confirm the person header is updated with the new officer UNID.
The IPS UNID – Unique Identification for all officers – is never changed, as it is a historical and one-time identification of where officers started their officership.
