Override Global Dashboard Widget Access
The dashboard KPI manager allows users to control which widgets are available when customizing the dashboard. The bulk of the dashboard widget permissions are handled via global default access, which is where users inherit permission to a widget simply by being a dashboard user. However, each dashboard widget allows the default to be overridden for a specific user.
This means that a widget can have "Deny All" as the global permission but award access to a specified user(s). The benefit of this is it allows dashboard users to access common widgets that do not contain sensitive data while restricting sensitive widgets and awarding access selectively.
Dashboard widget permissions can also be overridden for a specific user from the Users module.
Step-by-step guide
Individual report override for a specific user:
- Go to Settings → Data Managers → Dashboard KPI Manager
- Select the desired widget
Under the Override User Permissions section, search for and select the user
In order to use the override for a user, they must be first set up in the Users module.
After being selected the user will be listed under the search box
After selecting "SAVE" the changes will be complete
Keep in mind that the override function will always be the opposite of what the global permission is set to:
- If the widget is set to "Allow All" then the override would be to "Deny" specified users access.
- If the widget is set to "Deny All" then the override would be to "Allow" specified users access.
